Johnny Diaz is a non-traditional, first-gen, transfer student from East Los Angeles College that is currently majoring in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology with a minor in Biomedical research. He currently works in the Goldstein Lab where they study prostate cancer and his project is elucidating the metabolic characteristics associated with different prostate cancer tumor phenotypes. He plans on pursuing an MD/PhD and hopes to one day have his own lab while being director of an intensive research program for underrepresented minorities.

“The Power of the Pink Dot” by Richard Martinez and Elizabeth Murguia, Donations of Tissues and Organs at UCLA With the ability to heal and protect itself from injury and disease, the human body truly is extraordinary. However, the body does have its limits, and when organs begin to fail, a transplant is often necessary to save a patient's life. Unfortunately, at the current rate, approximately 22 people die every day while waiting for a transplant. Come learn about the immensely important, yet seldom talked about issue of organ donation, and how one person is able to save eight lives and affect 50 more, one pink dot at a time.
